This piece was hung as a lamp in Don Pedro's office in the house Barbera dels Aragonés. However, although it looks like a lamp, it is not intended for lighting. There is no parallel known with this object. The ball is signed by a brand: "ER PARIS" and is dated between 1860-1870.
Thanks to the correspondence from the house file, it was possible to know the use of this very special piece. A letter dated December 6th, 1875 was transcribed that a nephew sent to Antonia Aragonés Mayor. It is a letter of condolence (known by the black border) and it talks about a trip to Paris, where he thanks for the gift of a mirror ball, in which, he says: "children are always looking each other at".
